October 29, 2026, marks the annual observance of “Cyrus the Great Day” by the people of Iran and cultural enthusiasts across the globe. This initiative was first proposed in 2005 by the Pasargadae Heritage Foundation—the first international non-governmental organization dedicated to the preservation of Iran’s cultural heritage. At that time, the Tomb of Cyrus in Iran—a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site—was at risk of subsidence and, ultimately, destruction. However, the tireless efforts of the Foundation, combined with timely intervention by UNESCO, human rights activists, and various organizations, averted this danger. This also led to global recognition of Cyrus’s fundamental role in the survival of our shared human civilization. Regrettably, for several years now, the government of the Islamic Republic has prevented the public from visiting Pasargadae and the Tomb of Cyrus the Great.
